TadHealth and Nevada Joint Union High School District Make History: First Successful Claim Submitted to Governor Newsom’s CYBHI Program

Costa Mesa, CATadHealth and the Nevada Joint Union High School District have made history, submitting the first-ever claim under California's transformative Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI). The claim, processed through Carelon, the state’s exclusive claims administrator, was submitted on November 25, 2024. As of today, TadHealth remains the only organization successfully submitting claims through the CYBHI framework.

This milestone represents a critical step forward in California's mission to expand mental health services for children and youth, proving the CYBHI initiative's effectiveness and scalability. The first claim, submitted in partnership with the Nevada Joint Union High School District, underscores how schools and organizations can leverage this program to sustain mental health staffing, increase support for students, and provide much-needed resources for educational programs amid looming budget cuts.

Tim Reid, Director of Pupil Services for Nevada Joint Union High School District, emphasized the impact of this milestone. “This is a monumental moment not only for our district but for schools across California,” said Reid. “By successfully submitting the first CYBHI claim, we’ve demonstrated that schools can access crucial funding to address the mental health crisis affecting our students. This initiative provides us with the tools to support students holistically while ensuring our schools can thrive, even in challenging financial times.”

“This is a pivotal moment for the future of California’s youth,” said Ben Greiner, TadHealth Founder and CEO. “By submitting this first claim, we’ve demonstrated that CYBHI can be a powerful and actionable framework for ensuring mental health services reach the students who need them most. This initiative is about more than mental health—it’s about creating a better future for our schools, our communities, and our state.”

CYBHI’s innovative funding model not only ensures critical mental health services for students but also provides a lifeline to sustain school staffing levels and expand educational programs. By successfully integrating the claims process with Carelon, TadHealth has paved the way for other Local Education Agencies to follow suit, proving the initiative’s scalability and long-term potential.

This accomplishment comes at a time when schools are grappling with increasing demands for mental health resources amid financial constraints. By unlocking these funds, CYBHI will enable schools to retain essential staff and continue offering vital programs that foster academic and personal growth.

“Yesterday’s success is a testament to the vision behind CYBHI and the hard work of all those who have made this possible,” Greiner continued. “We are proud to be at the forefront of this historic moment and to help ensure that every child in California has access to the support they need to thrive.”
